GRILL'N for the GUYS

Well here he is.....our knight in shining armor, Mike at Custom Family Homes. He has stuck his neck out and gone above and beyond the call for our family. I will never be able to THANK him enough for ALL that he has already done and continues to DO in helping with our home come to life. Mike THANKS for not running the other way and helping us take this project on full force. YOU ROCK ~ there will ALWAYS be a special place in my heart for you!!
Well it's coming!! WOW, simply breath taking. Today the family went out for lunch and grilled out for the crew out at the house. They are doing a phenomenal job out there, these guys are AWESOME! I mean look at it ~ what a great bunch of guys ~ I can't say enough about them. The backyard is even progressing....YAY!Avrianna's new trait "in training" for ~ watch out guys, LOLThanks EJ ~ Good LUCK tomorrow with the new addition to your family!

Danny had Vision and OT therapy today....he actually played with them and stayed awake n alert the whole time. Now that progress, YAY!! Tomorrow is PT along with Speech so we'll see if they get the same from Danny too.

Well I better get going....Grey's Anatomy season finale' is on tonight. Can't wait! Me,a glass of wine, and Grey's. One kid is clean and the other is "getting there" so need to wrap things up. Thanks for stopping in.

Today is my nephew's birthday....HAPPY 7th BIRTHDAY Tyler, and my father in law's birthday....Happy Birthday PAPA ~ WE LOVE YOU GUYS! On Mother's Day we went to my Mom's house and celebrated the day along with Tyler's birthday. It was a very nice day! I got to sleep in, Dan made breakfast, and we were wonderfully lazy :)
Today I decided to go and donate Plasma again...after much thought I knew in my heart it was a good thing. My heart was hurt and once I got over the emotional train wreck of days I was having I decided to suck it up and go. It was the situation not the place...I truly do respect their decision and in the long run it was a better idea NOT to have him there but it just hurt to hear if from someone else. Today was a good day donating and I will continue to donate. Both my kids needed Plasma and I know first hand how important it is. Just paying it forward!!
Tomorrow is a day of meetings for me and lil man, but they are all good. In the morning I'm taking him with me to go to a meeting in regards to the new house, then I'm taking us out to lunch. In the afternoon Connie, Griffin, Myself & Danny are going to the Fox Valley Tech to speak in front of a class of students that are enrolled in a course for Children with Differing Abilities. That is always fun.....I get to spend time bragging about my kids :)
Not too much to report so that is a good thing.....KNOCK ON WOOD, LOL
Thanks for stopping by....

Me & My Lil Man

Today definitely didn't go as I had anticipated it to go.....will anything ever go smoothly? It's not that I had alot planned plus Dan & Avrianna had left this morning for Tomahawk so I had thought today was going to be a breeze just me and my lil man. NOT :( I got up early and saw Dan & Avrianna off, I was ready for the day, and Danny was a prince....it was my first appt of the day and that put me in raw form, augh. I had my second appt to donate plasma and I was excited to go, but with Dan not being home and me having another appt right after I needed to take Danny along. I called yesterday to let them know what they were in for and to see if they were ok with that, which they were.....until I got there. Then they felt uncomfortable with having Danny there. There were other kids in the nursery so I informed her to make sure no one touches his hands or face (for obvious reasons) and she couldn't guarantee me that it wouldn't happen because of all the children she had. Then I asked if he could just stay by me on the floor while I was donating and again they were not comfortable with that. So Danny and I left....I was so disappointed I was near tears walking out. I could see their reaction like that if I didn't call the day before to give them a heads up, but come on! I felt just awful......in instances like this I am very glad Danny doesn't understand cuz what a terrible feeling. Oh well their loss! No plasma from me for them :( Another botched attempt to do a good deed.
After that Danny and I went to the new house......he just LOVES hearing all the BIG "toys" out there. I'm for certain that if he was able he would be climbing all over the machines out there! He would be so proud sitting in one and being "one of the guys". But we all KNOW that isn't going to happen. Just a HUGE reflection day.....things like this morning to SLAP you in the face and put you right into place....SOCIETY SUCKS and how I allowed myself to "go there". What a gorgeous day and I see the neighbor kids (younger then Danny) riding their bikes, running a screaming while playing tag, with their HUGE kool aid mustache. And my heart just aches :(
I sit here typing in tears as I have to reposition his head in his wheelchair as he "pauses" his breath while sleeping and his lips start to turn blue. REALITY SUCKS!! What I would give for him to have what was taken away....MY DREAMS. He is the sweetest thing EVER and what he's been through in his life so far, hell what's in store for him still in his life ..... it's just cruel !!
On a good note ~ Danny had a good PT session today. I got him in his stander and tilted him at more of an upright position to see how he would tolerate it and then PT Dan, when he was here, could look for any issues if Danny had any.
Danny listening to Elmo's story....in the stander :)Danny having a conversation with Elmo :)They were having a real in depth conversation there for awhile, heehee. He is my IncrediBoy today.

Last weekend we were able to see what the head busts look like of the kids. Dan & I were having a local artist, Tim Brunn, do full body statues of the kids for the new house, but I am running out of room, heehee. So we decided to have him just do the kids heads....OMG are they AWESOME and so life like. Now that they are just the heads I can showcase both of them in my living room so I can look at them everyday. Tim, thank you so much for capturing "the moment" in both the kids...I will treasure them ALWAYS! I can't wait to see them finished and be able to show them off.

I still have a weird tingling in my legs and lower back when I pull my head forward... at the end of the month I have a physical so if it doesn't go away I'll let the doc know. I'm sure I tweeked something carrying lil man, sigh. My baby isn't a baby any more.

Well Lil man and I are going to go sit on the deck, cuddle, and finish the day on a GOOD note(yeah I'm going to have a cocktail, too). I LOVE my lil man so much :)

Funny Feeling

So I think I have something wrong with my neck or back .... the last 3 days every time I bend over or move my head down I get this tingley feeling that starts at my lower back and runs down both my legs. It doesn't hurt ... it just feels like my butt and legs are asleep until I stand properly again, it's a weird feeling. I'm not sure what to do or if I should do anything, augh like I need this.
Holy increase in the swine flu cases in 24 hours.....I am so glad I cancelled all outpatient therapy for now. I can't wait till our new home is done and I have the lift, equipment and availability to keep his therapies going instead of cancelling them and waiting out what's going on in the community.
Everyday the house has new things coming along....We have Walls~
this is Danny's room
Fireplace in the Great RoomMaster bath tubThey are getting the driveway set ... these two pictures are of Avrianna in the equipment that Earth Works brought out, Dan (yeap another Dan) thanks for EVERYTHING!Dan took Avrianna for alil ride....those two! What's next a Harley? HeeheeDanny decided to take a LONG snooze today...like he got up for the day at 4 in the afternoon. After that I gave him a shower and put him in his floor sitter....What a BIG BOY, I LOVE it when he is in this chairDo you think he ejoys playing with Elmo?

Well better get going and help make dinner....we need to beat the band of storms so we can grill our steaks. Take care! Thanks for following us!

Productivity

This was my Saturday's project....whew, glad that was done!! GW is stocked let me tell you. I did some serious house cleaning out. No more baby clothes or toys found here, I'm done holding onto that fantasy. The van was packed front to back and the bags were falling out when I opened the back, yeap I held onto alot of stuff. Not anymore :)We have siding going up on the house.....LOVE IT!And the pool was poured....things are happening over there! Avrianna is practicing her front stroke, heeheeMonkey see Monkey do.......Hey where's the water? I'm ready :)In the inside the insulation was blown and the drywall is going up. It's just amazing to see the house "come to life". I'm so excited to go out to the house now because we are at the stage where everyday something is different.
I am having a hard time with the outbreak of the swine flu. I guess it is the fear of the unknown! With Danny's crappy immune system and both Avrianna & Dan not having spleens I'm ON GUARD. I've decided to cancel all of Danny's out patient therapies and I have the home bound school therapist on alert, if anyone is feeling the least bit off to cancel. Right now it's just not worth the risk....again the fear of the unknown. Until there is a better feel of what this "flu" is all about we will continue to be hermits, sigh.
I'm really excited to go to Biolife for my first donation of plasma/blood, tomorrow. Both my kids needed blood and plasma so I know all too well the need. I had donated 11" of my hair on two different occasions to Locks of Love...well with me keeping the short hair look I won't be doing that anymore....so donating plasma/blood is my next venture of paying it forward. I can't wait to start !!
I'm hoping this is the worst and this bruise starts to go away....augh. I can finally walk with out it hurting....geeze OPEN your EYES Lori!!Our walk is on May 30th so ~ Please pledge your donations HERE and sponsor us in our walk for the Fox Valley Sibling Support Network fundraising walk. Overwhelmed!

So the tension was building around me the last few days.....until yesterday and then I unloaded. I'm pretty good at holding in my frustrations and going with the flow, but watch out when I let it loose. As most of you know my family has usually something going on ALWAYS and I try very hard to run a CLEAN and ORGANIZED ship, but lately things are just not going my way, sigh. YES I have a serious issue.....OCD, heehee. I feel like I'm being pulled in every direction and getting NOWHERE, the ball was running down hill fast! With that being said I really shouldn't be sitting on here and doing nothing, but I'm in this rut and it's driving me NUTS. We have alot of fires in the pot lately and just not enough water to put them all out....it's like I hit each one with water and they start to smolder and then they start to rage again. I don't like that and I don't like my attitude lately so for that I am sorry to all that I've shown the ugly side of me lately. Poor Dan gets the brunt of it, but I think after yesterdays outburst from me he understands that I'm NOT superwoman. I try very hard to DO IT ALL, and I hate the fact that I can't. Then when I ask for help and it seems to go unheard frustrations flare even more. But today is better .... and tomorrow is another day :) Thanks for listening!
Our friend Matt is having his 2nd wash out surgery so please keep him in your thoughts today.

G-Tube

I've been asked a few times "How" Danny is able to get fed...so here is goes. Danny has what you call a floppy airway there are three medical terms that go with floppy airway, but I'll spare you. That's why he sounds like he is snoring even when awake, pauses his breathing when sleeping (sleep apnea), and can NOT swallow well (not even his own secretions). At birth we fed him with a NG tube which is a tube we inserted into his nose and it ran down into his stomach until he was 3 months and then he had a Gastrostomy feeding tube (G-tube) placed in his belly that goes directly into his stomach. There are many different kinds but Danny's uses a Mic-key button.
It comes like this for his home medical supply company and they deliver it right to our door. I replace his every 3 months at home, but I know some mom's have the doctor replace it.
This is what comes in the kit to replace it.
This is the actual "button" that is inserted into DannyYou can see a white port where I'm holding onto the tube....there I insert a syringe with water and that blows up the balloon, holding the button in place in his stomach. This is the hole without the button in....this hole will close up pretty quickly without having the tube in to hold it open (if not in after 30 minutes I heard you are looking at a possible surgery to have put back in, knock on wood, we've never had that issue.....but I've accidentally pulled it out 2 times). It really is like an earring hole.

This is a 3month old button after it is taken out.....GROSS! And the company says you could really keep it in for up to year., um NO I don't think so .Here is what his tube looks like without the extension for feeding him. The big scar that runs up and down his tummy is a surgery he had when he was 6 months old called a Nissen. He had such bad acid reflux he could throw up clear across a room and the acid was eating at his esophagus already. The Nissen prevents anything from coming out of his stomach any longer. So he can no longer throw up, burp, or have reflux. Here is the extension I have to connect to the button and from there we either connect a syringe full of food, syringes of his meds (all liquid), and his feeding pump which he uses through the night to be fed. All which goes directly into his stomach to bypass his airway. I vent him (relieve gas and any extra food) by pulling it out from here too. So when he is sick or bloated I can relieve him instantly :)

Despite his size Danny only get 32oz of liquid a day...he gets half (16oz) of formula and the other half (16oz) of water in a 24 hour day. THAT'S IT! Due to where his brain damage is and the lack of movement he gains weight at a very fast pace. Plus he MUST have his mom's metabolism so the lil guy is doomed to be "Big a Boy". I hope that made sense :) Thanks for being intersted in my family. Don't be afraid to ask I love to talk about my kids and educate so people feel more comfortable.

Not too much else to report....I'm still trying to get things back in order here. The bruise on my leg is still growing is size and wow the colors, LOL! Well not getting much done sitting on the computer so .... better get moving before my pissy attitude get worse as my projects keep staring me in the face and I just can't seem to have time to do them.

Oops!

Ok ~ this is what happens when you don't pay attention and OPEN your eyes. Yesterday after my family and I went out to lunch... I was loading Danny up in the full size van and I tripped over his lift backwards. UGH! This was just a nickel in size last night and when I got up this morning it was bigger, swollen, and it hurts like hell. I'm sure I bruised the muscle too, eek. So needless to say I hope I don't do that again. Don't worry Danny wasn't on the ramp yet so no harm no foul there, it's was just my plain stupidity :) This picture doesn't do the color justice, LOLThe newest hair do! Without glasses And with :) Avrianna was playing with the camera and wanted to take some pictures. She's pretty good!

Today I tore Avrianna's closet apart, removed all the clothes that she's outgrown (she needs to slow down, darn kids they just dont listen....I keep telling her not to grow up), and stocked it back up with summer clothes. Think positive :) summer PLEASE come soon. One room down and two more to go, this is a step in the right direction, YIPPEE!

Tomorrow Danny has his first therapy since we've been back from the school district with Mr Dan (PT). I'm so excited! Plus we are having our DME guy out tomorrow so we can get Danny to fit better in his chair, yeap this whole they don't listen and keep growing on me, sigh. His chair is less then 6 months old and we are already having to adjust, ugh. He is getting to be such a big boy. My mom came and watched the kids this afternoon and she was in awe with how well Danny held his head up high and was looking at her....really checking her out. Way to go buddy!

Thanks for praying for Matt today....he is out of surgery and off the tube, yay! They are going to have to redo this procedure on Saturday (to wash out the wound hoping to get rid of the infection) so please follow his story and send some prayers his way. His grandma was sent to the ER while visiting him so they really could use good vibes sent there way, sigh.

Pray for Matt

Sorry for the lack of updates lately but I've just been going in ALL directions. Not too much to report anyway so that is a good thing. Avrianna is well, Danny is doing great, and the house is coming along.
Danny had a PT eval today and he did wonderful, we are getting him ready for therapy during the summer as he will not be doing summer school through the school district. He still isn't totally peeing by himself everyday so I still have to cath him once or twice a day, but it's getting better.
I just signed Avrianna up for her summer camps and piano lessons. Let me tell you I have to run her somewhere once and even twice EVERY day to somewhere. Then add Danny's PT 2 times a week ..... we are going to be on the move ALL summer long.
The house is going great! I've been out there for a couple hours every day to get things in order and to help answer any questions. What a project!!! I can't wait to see it finished, WOW. Now on the important news...I just was updated that Danny's lil friend Matt was readmitted to the hospital this afternoon with a full blown staph infection. So if they can't get it under control they are going to have to reopen him back up and remove all the back rods he just had placed until he heals. Please pray for him....this is WAY too much for a lil (almost 3yr old) to go through. To read his updates and journals click HERE . Hang in there Matt we are praying very hard for you!!!

Rain, Rain, GO Away!!

It's raining, it's pouring the old man is snoring.....LOL. This is the second day in a row of rain, ugh. NO MORE RAIN!! How cold and depressing? It is pouring right now and the farmers field is starting to look like a pond not a field, sigh. I would like to be back in the fun and sun of Florida where it only rains for at most an hour not DAYS. We do have a fire in the fireplace and there's no other way to spend a day like this...with my family, drinking coffee, and sitting by the fire....Ahhhhhhh
So I'm going to post some happy stuff....Our House :) I would like to thank, from bottom of my heart.....Custom Family Homes (Mike, our general contractor) and all the sub contractors involved in helping us finish this home. Mike has gone above and beyond the call of duty to help maintain functionality and the "Country Sheek" in our home (with Mike having a daughter with some disabilities he understands). I am so excited about the house and it's progress now. I know the road hasn't been the smoothest but we are now on the right path of making this house our "Dream Home" not a nightmare. Thanks Mike, you are now apart of our family (not sure if that's a good thing?).
Well here are some updated pics as of Friday. The whole roof is now shingled and the window are in! They are starting the dryvit and siding. Our front entry way... cedar beamed peak...the wood was cleared and cut by Dan at The Newood in Spirit Falls, WI (Dan's home away from home in God's country). Thanks Dan it's Gorgeous!
The brick and stone starting to go on the garageDanny checking the place outAvrianna playing in the rocks/mud in the retaining walls by the walk out in the basement. Why is there always a drive.....MUD = KID
I am so hoping this rain stops as the pool is suppose to start being dug tomorrow and with all the mud this rain is producing, ugh......I'll have to bring extra clothes for Avrianna to change into, heehee.
Danny is doing better. He was just catching up on his sleep, I guess. Yesterday he finally pee'd on his own all by himself, Yay! I gave him/us one more week off of therapies, so I can get myself in check before people start coming over. Friday is our first therapy back in Wisconsin with PT here at the house. Danny has done some pretty amazing things in Florida so I hope we can show him off to Mr Dan (PT) here in Wisconsin.
With that said, I suppose I should get the rest of my trip stuff put away....yeap totally procratinating on this one, heehee.

Settled In

Well I should be more settled in then I am, but Oh well. I am going shopping instead of cleaning and putting stuff away. I just wanted to post and let you know that Danny is doing much better. Yesterday he was awake and alert all day but no peeing......then today he has started to pee on his own, not great yet, but better. Today is very COLD and rainy so Dan's first day of racing was cancelled, ugh! So that means he got roped to go shopping with us, heehee. I will post more later. Hope you all are having a good day!

Sleeping

Well we got in last night at midnight. The trip wasn't too bad, well as good as 30 hours inside an RV can go, heehee. This morning I got to sleep in some, then the cleaning began, LOL. We were able to clean out the RV, clean it and get it put away. YIPPEE! Then inside I got the laundry done, and most of the things organized. I still have to put some of the clothing away, but we did pretty good in a days time. I even got a chance to go out to the new house and check it out. I did forget the camera, but I will be going back tomorrow for a meeting and I will remember to bring out the camera to up date you all with the progress. It's amazing!!!
I'm getting concerned about Danny though....go figure, nothing goes smoothly. I haven't seen the whites of his eyes since yesterday. He slept through the night, ALL day today, and it looks as if he is going to continue tonight. He didn't pee on his own ALL day either. You would think cathing him would get him to open his eyes at least alil, sigh. His stats are doing well, but I still don't like that he isn't waking up. I will be watching closely and if he isn't more awake tomorrow I will be bringing him in. He just wants to see Dr. Kasper, Danny missed him, LOL. I will keep you up with all of this.
Avrianna settled back in well. She played most of the afternoon with the neighbor girl and tomorrow it's suppose to be in the 80's, YAY, so I'm sure she will be outside most of tomorrow too.

Wisconsin

We are about 5hrs from being back in the comforts of my own home, ahhhh. We left FL yesterday around 4:30 in the afternoon so we are doing well on time. The warm weather is following us back I think, yippee. Our trip has been a good one, really can't complain, but after being in the RV for over 24 hours I'm getting alil pissy, LOL. One minor mishap that could have been major but no worries it's all good :). I will post more when we get home.
Oh yeah, Matt went home today, woohoo! You rock Matt. Sorry we weren't able to connect. It will plan on seeing you this summer :0)
Well off to watch Marley N Me,

Pictures

Today we went on a walk around our community...so I thought what a great photo op time. You all know I love taking pictures....maybe I was a photographer in a past life. Seeing I love to take them, now if I could only be as good as a pro. Well here are my babes!Avrianna says I'm suppose to say they are in a JUNGLE....that's what she thinks this looks like.Ok ~ this is one of my personal favs cuz look......what for it......they are BOTH smiling :o). Did I get that, heehee.

I took this one after Danny's bath on his tummy time.....OMG isn't he an angel. Those eyes! I'm no professional photographer but I have to say .... not too bad :)
Mattman was successfully extubated this afternoon.....thank you prayer warriors! Danny and I can't wait till we can meet him personally. Those two boys are and do some much of the same things ~ BOYZ! I am so glad his spine surgery is over with and the recovery has began for Matt.

Sleepy & Congested ~2nd post

Well Danny is being in TRUE Danny form. This last few days he has been more lethargic then normal and now today is congested, ugh! I have started doing Mr Jiggles more, in hopes to knock the "crap" out, heehee. Leave it to Danny to be "off" right before we have to leave. The only bonus with this is I got to tear the condo apart, clean it, and put it back together again. Plus I have pretty much everything packed to go home, now I just have to get it in the RV. I am hoping we can spend the weekend enjoying the Florida weather, but something tells me Danny's got something up his sleeve.
Yesterday was Danny's last therapy at KIDspirit, so sad. Avrianna bawled the whole way home...she's going to miss that place too. Now doesn't that show how awesome a place and how wonderful the people are there! Love you guys, we will miss you!!
Today Danny was suppose to have his last therapies at the house from the school district, but Danny wouldn't wake up. So the Teacher was pretty much out to just pick up the equipment and I called the Speech therapist to tell her to not come out, it would be a waste of her time. Sorry :( .....we'll see you guys next Fall and I hope Danny cooperates for you guys better.
Dan flies in late Sunday night and I know we are all VERY excited to see him. I'm sure after 2 months of being alone with me the kids are sick of ME. They can't wait to have their daddy around. We plan on starting our travels back to WI on Tuesday so if things go well we should be back by Wednesday/Thursday. It all depends on how many times we stop.

Head's Up

Today Danny had two hours of therapy...first hour was PT and the second was an assessment from Speech. Did I tell you all how much I LOVE KIDspirit and their staff?! Well they are AWESOME. Danny did well both hours of therapy and even managed to vocalize during Speech...I know that's a change for him. But the therapist's are all beautiful ladies so Danny likes to throw his charm on, LOL! I did manage to get this video of him after his long day and bath tonight. He is so Cute!! Hope you enjoy.

Tomorrow Danny has his Assitive tech therapist here in the morning to show me some proximetry switches. I hope they will work for Danny! It's so exciting to see Danny ambitions of wanting to activate/play with things and if I can find a switch that will work with him instead of against him I think he will flourish even more.
Today was Avrianna's last day of Gymnastic Camp so tomorrow she will be able to get back into her routine again. She really had a blast playing there all day (6 hours) for the last 7 days. I'm sure we'll have issues with getting back into the swing of schoolwork, but if she wants me to take her to see The Hannah Montana movie she'll have to corporate with me, yeah I'm not beneath a good bribe, LOL.
This is our last week here in Florida and then back to the wonderful Wisconsin weather. So many mixed emotions there, we LOVE it here.....but we miss Daddy so very much. Dan will be flying in on Sunday (the count down has been going for the last month) and Avrianna is so excited that her Dad is going to be here. I also am very excited to see our new house and all the progress since we've been gone. I'm constantly hearing how beautiful it looks and how different it looks every day so needless to say I can't wait to see it ~ Sending out a HUGE Thank You to Custom Family Homes & all the sub contractors involved in helping make our dream home become a reality~ You guys ROCK
